On a windows 2008 r2 server, i tried turn off antivirus and sql writer before i run a backup job.

It failed and give me the error 

The backup operation that started at '‎2016‎-‎04‎-‎16T04:00:47.795253500Z' has failed with following error code '2155348257' (Windows Backup failed to read the file: '<backup location>\WindowsImageBackup\<Computer Name>\MediaId'.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.

I tried some searching on the net but couldn't find anything relevant to help troubleshoot this issue. Anyone can enlighten me? i tried running vssadmin list writers in command prompt and all show no errors.

Server 2008 R2

A fatal error occurred during a windows server backup snap-in (wbadmin.msc) operation error details: Unknown error (0x80042318) Close wbadmin.msc and then restart it 

restart did not work

executed wbadmin disable backup at command prompt to erase the scheduled tasks thinking they were the problem and that has not worked, 

server seems okay but I have to restore more files and can not get in, plus I need this working again any help out there?

We have a Windows 2012 Server that currently backs up to an external hard drive nightly. We have a couple EC2 instances with space for those backups to reside and would like to direct our backups there. Can we configure Windows Server Backup to backup directly to the external EC2 instance or do we need to use 3rd-party software to facilitate this?

Clearly I'm not familiar with Windows Server Backup functionality - thanks in advance.

hi

I want to replicate file system structure on new location several times per day for searching purposes.

/create switch works but when I run it again robocopy report that all source files is changed and process last long as from first starting. No one file is changed in source folder.

How to avoid this and speed this up?

Hello

My backup was seccessful with warning, everything is completed except (Bare Metal Recovery) failed, it status said: (Backup failed to complete)

In backup details I found in errors tab this message: (BMR backup failed as ASR writer while creating shadow copy and was skipped. Detailed error: Not all components reported by the writer can be snapshtted.

I clicked (View list of all failed files) and found this:

Hello,

a few days ago i sheduled a full system backup for a windows server using windows server baskup.

today, when i review the backup results i saw lots of warnings regarding a missing volume. 

i checked the event viewer and found Event id 658 and 519 but the information found on technet pages that document this events did not help at all.

can anyone help with this problem ?

My customer purchased volume license of server 2012 on 09/30/2013, 2012 R2 release date was 10/18/2013 (18 days later). Are they eligible for 2012 r2 and if so what is the time period of free upgrade eligibility?

Hi,

Am using SBS 2011 - have an external drive with backups on it (Server Backup), the drive has corrupted etc and on inspecting it through active partition the data is there but it shows the drive as unallocated space, I need to do a bare metal restore, what is the best way to do this, without destroying the data

The drive has only ever been used as a backup drive on the server

Any help would be appreciated

I am including everything in the backup but have excluded D:\WSUS folder from it. Screens below. Is it likely to cause any issues such as not backing up files and folders that are added to D:\ drive in future?

I was regularly taking back up of a local drive/disk of windows 2012 file server in external hard disk with the help of windows backup and restore utility. One day my server by which I was taking the back up crashed. Fortunately I'd another file server of same configuration running windows 2012 server but when I'm trying to restore the backed up data on my external hard disk to the new server, the restoration wizard doesn't move further at step where we can expand the backup image and select files and folder to restore. There's no error but the Next button is not highlighting here. What's d advantage of taking the backup if we can't restore the backed up data by another server having same hardware and software configuration. Please help .

i have take back up in server 2012r2 on the same server D:\ driver.  i take testing backup six time and i wand to delete one by one back with use the wbadmin cmd..... but not backup delete on the d:\ driver.... i written this cmd . and guide me whats wrong with me....

But there is no any delete backup

Hi Experts,

Recently we found that backup is not finishing completely because of disk space issues. This error message was only found in windows server backup GUI window. So is there any way to pull these details and send via a email as part of daily health check

Hi guys,

I have user account for winimage backup and runing on windows server 2008. But every Windows backup running, it created Log is like NTUSER.Dat {xxx}.TM.TM.blf / .regrants-ms. That is why on my drive C: was log's growing up(C:\user\winimage.backup)

Can i delete those file as normally? or another way?

I have a nightly scheduled backup on my server running Server 2012 R2. Every time, the backup of Hyper-V (including my one VM) fails. The error wbadmin gives me is "The component <Name of the VM>(Online) was skipped during the snapshot and will not be available for recovery. Error: The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur."

In event viewer, SPP throws an Event 16387, saying "Writer Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer experienced some error during snapshot creation.  More info: ." (copied just as it was written, that's not a typo). Details say "The writer experienced a partial failure. Check the component level error state for more information. (0x80042336) Unspecified error (0x80004005)".

What could be causing this problem?

I am running Windows 2008 server R2 Service Pack 1 on a Dell PER 720 with 32 GB or RAM.

I recently attached a 1 TB Samsung SSD via USB and ran a full bare metal backup.  It worked perfectly 1 time.

Now I get the warning that drive "D:  The system cannot find the file specified".  It appears to be backing up drive C: (OS) just fine but the data drive is not working...

Looks like the backup job duration is the same when running backup for the first time and every subsequent time.  I thought Win2008R2 does incremental backup when destination is a iSCSI target. I am backing up a Hyper-V server with bunch of VMs, and the backup duration is about 6 hours to a iSCSI target running on a Gigabit connection and this makes me think that there is no incremental backup being done.

Someone please help me understand why this is happening.
