    I have downloaded the AIK and when I go to its directory I don't see any IMAGEX tool , I see only IMAGE manager or SIM tool .is this the same as imagex tool.  I want only to open full-back-up files to edit it from any server edition.

    my only aim is to run data recovery software on any back-up of my customers. I know what I am doing.

  • 06/26/14--07:27: wbadmin - Pause Backup
  • Greetings,

    I want to pause a backup job I have set in wbadmin - Windows Server Backup. Is there a way to do this?

    We have a windows 2012 server that is using windows backup. We've set it up to do incrementals. In looking through the logs, on occasion the box does a full backup. I understand that you'd want to do a full backup and then incrementals and not just a full with 100 incrementals for restore purposes.. but what my question is.. how often does the full get run. I don't see where we have any control over when that full gets run. So what kicks off the full.. what logic does windows backup use.

    We are backing up to a USB drive.  We swapped out the USB drive on Tuesday, windows performed a full backup on Wednesday night.  We have scheduled backups to run M-F at 6:00 pm.  So after the drive was swapped out, it performed an incremental that night.

    Thanks for any help

    i've setup Windows server Backup on a Windows server 2012 standard (which is a Domain Controler) to do a complete backup on a external hard drive.

    During the backup, all go well until system state backup. It fail with the following error in the event log (event id 517) : 0x80070001 (invalid function)

    after some research, i found that log :

    EventType=Windows Server Backup Error
    Sig[0].Name=Backup Target Type
    Sig[1].Name=Operation Type
    Sig[2].Name=Overall hr
    Sig[3].Name=Overall Detailed hr

    AppName=Exécutable du service de moteur de sauvegarde en mode bloc Microsoft®
    ReportDescription=Windows Server Backup Error Report

    System State Backup return error 0x8078001d.

    I've google a lot about these errors but nothing concerning Windows Server 2012.

    VSS Writers does not show any errors (using vssadmi nlist writers)

    No disk error anywhere in the event viewer.

    I've also check the "JUNCTION" issue (mostly known in Win 7 and Win server 2008 r2) but none of them are "mounted drive" so ...

    I'm really runing out of idea ...

    EDIT :

    No updates are applyed to the machine.

    will try with updates ...

    EDIT :

    even with the last Windows updates, i keep get the same error

    I made a backup of windows server 2012 and I tried to open it whith imagex tool  to mout it on my other computer and to edit it.but t seems imagex tool is not the right one.

    I see that imagex tool can open wim files and I think windows fuul backup is not a wim file.

    1--my first question what is the full backup extension file name of microsoft server?

    2- with which tool I can open this  full backup  file to mount it on my other computer ad edit it. is the imagex the right tool which I don't think so.

    Hi folks,

    A brand new installation of Windows 2012 Server fails to do a scheduled back up to a NAS drive. The one of back up worked to a shared folder on the network. The error it gives out is "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unload it." The error occurs just before I finalize the set up of scheduled back up.  I am happy to provide more information should there be a need for it. Any help out there?

    Thanks in advance,

    We would like to backup our File Services Role in Windows Server 2008 R2 as we are migrating our server to a new machine with Windows Server 2012.

    1) What would be the best method in backing this up and then recovering it once done?

    2) Can roles be restored on Windows Server 2012 machine from a Windows Server 2008 backup?

    got a Windows Server 2008R2 running with Windows Server Backup,

    and now the Backup mmc shows "Total Backups: 94 Copies" (that were the old Backups which arent available anymore)

    Total backups should be 0

    All Backups

    Total backups: 93 copies

    Latest copy: 26/05/2014

    Oldest copy 13/05/2010

    Is there any way to delete those? I tried to reinstall the Feature but didnt work either.

  • 07/01/14--11:03: Backup failed
  • Hello,

    I am trying to backup my Windows Server 2008R2 SP1 to the network location. Network share in this case is Windows Server 2012 cluster with Scale-Out File Server role. Backup source and destination are in different AD domains with cross-forest two-ways trusts. Network share is accessible from the server with full access.

    When I configure Backup Schedule I get error: "A backup cannot be stored in a remote shared folder that is not on a volume formatted with NTFS"

    When I run Backup Once I get the same error.

    If I run "wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:\\backupdestination\folder -include:C: -allCritical -vssfull" I prompted to confirm of backup System Reserved (100.00 MB),SYSTEM(C:) to the network share. I press Y then wait about 10 seconds delay and then I get: "The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid."

    Please advise.

    There has been no explicit volume size change, however these VM all use Dynamically expanding virtual hard disk (VDHX).

    A forth VM (Gen 1) running Windows 7 Pro, also provisioned with a Dynamically expanding virtual hard disk does not exhibit this behaviour when it performs a Windows backup.

    How can I rectify this situation?
