I have a Window server 2012 VM (vmware) act as a AD server. Recently the perform backup on the server with backup exec

The server will crashed when it is backup. I check the minidump and it shows BAD_POOL_CALLER with error code 0x000000c2 caused by vhdmp.sys.

I found a hotfix from this url https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2807654, its similar to my issue but i'm not sure its relevant to my issue.

Problem with Windows Backup exlusions

Hi, I'm trying to exclude the $Tmp$ directories from backup, as they are from open sessions in a program called "Winbooks".  The backup fails on this ...

Error in rename of D:\Winbooks\data\KVKWEMMEL\USERS\$Tmp$\CHARLES\ during backup: Error [0x80070002] The system cannot find the file specified.

Currently I excluded d:\winbooks\data\$*$ /s, but that does not seem to work.  Problem is that the Data directory SHOULD be in the backup, only those subdirectories under DATA ( or 2 levels down) should be excluded.

Any idea what the correct exclusion syntaxis is?

Thanks!

I have a File Server in place, which has folders with information that i want to Replicate across the Network

i opt not to use Namespaces but to just use DFS Replication section, is this recommend  ?

If i use namesapaces and add a folder target with files that are all ready existing would that overwrite the files or is what i did a good option for point users to the new folder in case of a failover  ?

WSB problems inside VM, Ntfs and Disk errors in System Event Log?

Wondering if anyone can help with backup problem I am having?

I have Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter running on two servers, with Failover Cluster Manager setup. I have a 2008 R2 VM guest, and the VHDs are via iSCSI from a HP P4330 storage server. The VM is just used for File Sharing, and I have tried to use Windows Server Backup inside the VM to backup up some of the Volumes (not backing up everything). It has 3x Data VHDs attached to virtual SCSI adaptors.

I have a similar setup on the same VHs, running Exchange 2010, and WSB seems to work fine (doing full system backup).

I managed to get WSM to successfully do a backup during the day, but the scheduled overnight backups keep failing.

I've had a search through forums and Google, but haven't found a fix yet.

These are the kinds of error messages I get:

Exchange backup not working

Hi

SBS 2011 std/Exchange 2010.

In Exchange BPA I am getting;

Database 'Mailbox Database' on server MYSERVER accommodates 57 mailboxes. This database has not had a full online backup for 467 days.

In Windows Backup we have set 'Full Server.

I tested Mailbox Database and logs consistency. Mailbox Database came out fine. Logs consistency had an issue so I copied logs into a separate folder and remounted the Mailbox Database. Backup went OK after that but Exchange BPA is still giving these two errors;

Database 'Mailbox Database' on server SBS-SERVER contains 57 mailboxes. This database has never had a full online backup.

Database 'Public Folder Database 0855719877' on server SBS-SERVER has not had a full online backup for 470 days.

Thanks

Regards

"one or more server hard drives must be checked for errors" every day when backup occurs

$

This is on Windows Server 2012R2 Essentials specifically. But I saw the same behavior on 2012 Essentials before switching.

Both on the Dashboard's alerts and daily health reports, it indicates that one or more drives are unhealthy and need to be fixed. However, it does not list any disk specifically. This occurs several minutes after the backups are scheduled, and will change when it happens if I change the time for the backups.

This happens EVERY DAY. Deleting or ignoring the reports just cause it to come back. Disabling backups, or disconnecting the drive they're stored on doesn't fix it. Neither does formatting the drive and setting up backups again.

I've not found any specific errors, and I've scanned the system partitions using their volume ID, and that hasn't helped.

No virus scanner nor disk tools are installed. There are no 3rd party file system filters installed either.

The Event Viewer doesn't indicate any issues specifically either.

This is frustrating and annoying.

Please find the below steps:-

Scenario1: No output or writers are not stable.

RCA:This issue occurs because the registry path to Eventcls.dll is incorrect or because the registry data type for the TypeLib setting is incorrect.FIX:https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2009533

Scenario2:

The system writer fails because permissions to files in the %windir%\winsxs\filemaps\ or %windir%\winsxs\temp\PendingRenames directories are incorrect.

Scenario3:

If some 3rd party storage Disk or Storage Management software is installed it may bring all the volume without drive letter offline

Generally 100 MB partition is system partition which contains Boot configuration Database and does not have a drive letter assigned.

Troubleshoot

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2419286

 https://community.emc.com/docs/DOC-32981

 From command prompt

 C:\>Diskpart

C:\Diskpart> List volume

C:\Diskpart> Select volume 1 (Considering this is 100 MB system partition)

c:\Diskpart> Online volume

C:\Diskpart> exit

DISKPART> automount

Automatic mounting of new volumes is disabled.

To enable AUTOMOUNT run the following command

DISKPART> automount enable

Reboot the server and the volume will not go offline.

OR

From the Disk Management console assign the drive letter to the 100MB partition it should bring the disk online.

To access Disk Management, open command prompt

C:\>Diskmgmt.msc

Select the 100 MB volume; Right click on the volume Change drive letter & Path; Assign a drive letter.

Assigning the drive letter will ensure the volume is not offline again after a reboot

However above steps did not work, I have not get any solution over forum except these. Could you please help me??

When I recover with my .bkf file my windows 2003 r2 it asks for activation

Hi, I'm having a big trouble trying to recover my windows 2003 standard r2 pack with my .bkf file. I've done what I've allways do, I go to backup files --> Recover --> Select my .bkf file --> Advanced --> and here no matter what I select even rewritte all the files or respect the old ones I get the same problem( I will discribe it later). And when the recover program it's done he asks me for restarting my server. So I do. After restarting the program it asks me for my user and passowrd. So I write them and then after a while a pop up tells me that I need to activate my product and he asks for a product key.

The image is with the spanish version because so was required by the client. But the translation is what I wrote above

sorry momentany I can't add the image, i will make it later

So I click in yes (Si), and then it goes to another blue screen window that asks for the key activation but I can't do anything. See the image below.

sorry momentany I can't add the image, i will make it later

The wierd thing is that I can't close the window because I'm unable to navigate with the mouse across the window.

I'm using as you can see virtualbox to execute my windows 2003 r2 pack. I'm sure that my .bkf file isn't corrupted so I can't understand what the problem is. I'm really frustrated with this problem. Any help would be nice

Thank you for your replies

How To Restore VM from Backup?

$

Dear Hyper V Expert,

We are using Windows Server 2012 Standard as the HYper V Server and I have some VMs built inside. From the forum, I know that we can use Windows Backup to Backup VM and restore it. I have just create a schedule for the full VM backup (backing up the VHDX files, snapshot folder, etc)and will be running starting tonight.

My question is, in case, how should I restore the VM from the backup that I have made using the Windows backup? So It can be restored to another server as fast as possible when the VM on another server is totally corrupted or down?

Thanks.

Multi users on virtual machines

Hi all, first time question, hope I do this right.

My company has less than a dozen Virtual Machines that we host on a server.  Our remote sales staff uses the VM's.  My boss would like the sales staff to be able to log in, from a central point, and be directed to or have the first available VM start up.  I have researched and I believe that a gateway will be my best bet.  I was wondering what the experts thought, and how to implement this.  If you have some references you can link me to it would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully I explained this well enough.

Thank you for the help

Windows Server Backup System State error - source is FAT32

$

Hi

Windows Server Backup cannot perform a System State backup. Error states the backup cannot be carried out unless source volume is formatted using NTFS/ReFS.

I have exactly the same problem that is described in this thread. The problem is that there is a hidden 2GB system partition called OS which does not have a drive letter assigned. This partition is formatted as FAT32 and is the reason Windows Server Backup fails. I understand I can use the solution given, using convert.exe, to convert the FAT32 partition to NTFS. However, another respondent in a separate thread, 'Erik the well read' states:

"I contacted Dell about this and was told not to touch it. The FAT32 partition contains the UEFI build and should not be reformatted/converted."

The server I have this issue with is a Dell PowerEdge R210 II. I installed Windows Server 2012 R2 using an image I downloaded from the Microsoft Licensing site.

Can anyone help me with this, please? Can the system partition named OS be converted? Should it be converted? Why is a FAT32 system partition created during installation when the built-in backup utility won't back it up?

Also, I fully expect to install 2012 in the future so would like to know if it is possible to get the installer to format the partition as NTFS and not FAT32.

Thanks.

Dear,

We have a software that a few people is using but only on their local machine as it is not possible to use at the same time by several people. Is it possible to on the server create a script that backups the data from this software from the client machine? Either that I manually do it from the server or it does it automatically.

Sincerely,

Nitman
