AD CS and Hyper-V Replica

Hello,

Our system is composed of over 20 sites at geographically different locations, and two of the sites are the major server farms.
The two site are the primary and the secondary; the primary is to fail over to the secondary should the primary go down.

We are deploying AD CS for issuing certificates to users, and we need to back up AD CS so that it will also fail over to the secondary, along with other services (Exchange, Lync, etc.).

We would like to know whether it is possible to
1. Set up the AD CS server as a virtual machine.
2. Back up the AD CS server from the primary to the secondary using Hyper-V Replica.
3. Restore the replicated VM at the secondary site when a failover happens.

One more thing: our network bandwidth between the two major sites is *rather* limited.
Does anyone know if this would work or not?

Thanks,

Wanko

Two versions of VSS in Registry

Dear friends,

My server has VSS problem and the event viewer told me "The activation of the CLSID {0B5A2C52-3EB9-470A-96E2-6C6D4570E40F} timed out waiting for the service VSS to stop".

I found some where that registry need to have only one record. But I have two versions of VSS, one is Version 1.0.0.1 and 1.0.0.7.

If I delete the old one, will it resolve the issue or harm the server? Please help.

Files and folders backup is failing with error that directory is not found

Hi,

We have a Windows 2008 R2 Site appliance where our users personal data and other application data are stored in a particular drive. Each weekend we do the full backup of that drive using Symantec Backup exec 2012 SP3. But recently we found that for last one month the backups are failing with an error that "V-79-57344-65033 : Directory not found. Cannot backup directory ... and its subdirectories". Although the directories are present there. If I am excluding that directory from backup selection then next time it is giving error for some other directories in the same drive.

I checked few Symantec blogs and they are saying that because of file system error this issue may arise. I ran chkdsk on that drive and there are no file system error.

Recently there were no major changes in the server end other than the July , August & September 2015 MS patch deployments.

Any ideas on this issue will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

**-CK-**

Searched around and have seen others with this issue but no real solutions.

I have a 14TB Deduplicated volume that loses its vss about once a month. I just lost this lasts night and have seen some interesting stuff.

First the error

The shadow copies of volume E: were deleted because the shadow copy storage could not grow in time.

Consider reducing the IO load on the system or choose a shadow copy storage volume that is not being shadow copied.

PS C:\Windows\system32> vssadmin list shadowstorage /for=e:

vssadmin 1.1 - Volume Shadow Copy Service administrative command-line tool(C) Copyright 2001-2012 Microsoft Corp.Shadow Copy Storage association

For volume: (E:)\\?\Volume{9b6bb5ae-8d5e-4f13-94ac-8655fc90e4f2}\

Shadow Copy Storage volume: (E:)\\?\Volume{9b6bb5ae-8d5e-4f13-94ac-8655fc90e4f2}\

Used Shadow Copy Storage space: 507 MB (0%)

Allocated Shadow Copy Storage space: 3.14 GB (0%)

Maximum Shadow Copy Storage space: 1.40 TB (9%)

If i look at previous versions i only show the snapshot from this morning at 7:00 AM

However if i type vssadmin list shadows. it shows 30+ Contents of shadow copy set ID.

I am starting to run low on space but i still have over 20% free and over 3.1TB of space.

Any ideas here?

Dear Windows Expert,

I have a backup server running Windows server 2012 with the Windows Server Backup installed. I would like to do a remote backup of my Hyper V Server Running Windows Server 2008 R2. Is it possible? As we know that Windows Server backup on 2008 Windows is not able to backup Hyper V, that's why I am planning to use Windows Server Backup 2012 running on the other server.

Thanks.

Server 2012 R2, 2 node cluster VSS is failing on one node

I have found fixes for Server 2008 and 2008 R2 but have yet to find a resolution
for Server 2012 R2.  I have worked with EMC to try a resolve with no
luck.  The issue is the e:\ volume is on the other node in the cluster but
is looking at this path due to a SAP service that installed to this
cluster volume location on this node "e:\usr\sap\trn\ascs01\exe\sapstartsrv.exe".
Below is the VSS event id, vssadmin list writers, and diskshadow output for
further information.

Backup Windows 2012 R2 HyperV cluster node problem

Hi all,

I want to configure BMR backup for one node of HyperV 2012R2 cluser.

When I select BareMetal recovery in WindowsBackup console it checks BMR, SystemState and LocalDisc C. At the end of wizard I got an error: One of source volumes specified has an invalid format and cannot be protected using Windows Backup. Only volumes formatted with NTFS/ReFS can be protected.

I tried to exclude CSV volume from Advanced Settings but still no luck.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.
