Hi all,
We use a Quantum Scalar i40 robot with a HP Ultrium LTO-6 fibre channel attached drive. This is attached to a Qlogic QLE2562 8 Gb/s FC card on a host.
We first started noticing something strange when copying (using Windows 2012 R2 Standard Explorer copy/paste) from the host storage to the LTO-6 drive. When trying to archive a large amount of files (image sequences) we would sometimes get an error “File IMG123456.dpx
already exists, do you wish to replace or skip?”. If we clicked Replace or Skip, the same outcome, the file would not be present on the tape. Initially, we would re-format the tape and copy the entire data again, but the
same error, on the same file would appear. We think we have got around this by copying the missing frame to the parent directory and ‘moving’ the file into the image sequence.
However, the problem that has led to this post is the reverse; copying from an LTO-6 tape to our storage. We copied an entire tape and informed our colleagues that the data was online for them to view. Upon viewing the image sequence
copied off the tape, we noticed that a frame e.g. IMG100001.dpx was actually frame IMG100002.dpx. However IMG100002.dpx would remain the same.
We told the supplier that the data was corrupt. We returned the LTO to them for further checks. They informed us the data on the LTO was OK and the data on their SAN was OK. We received the same LTO back from them and copied the frame IMG100001.dpx (initially
wrong) by itself and the frame was OK. We then copied the entire contents of the tape again and the same thing happened. The same frame was replaced by IMG100002.dpx.
I don’t know is this is a Windows bug or an HP StoreOpen LTFS bug. I've raised a ticket with HP but they've in turn told me to raise a ticket with Microsoft.
Wondering if anyone else has experienced this?
Appreciate your thoughts,
