Hi Everyone,
I have a Windows 2012 server running Windows backup. The backup drives are frequently taken offsite but we are worried about someone accessing the backed up data if one of those USB backup drives gets stolen.
Questions:
1. Does Windows Server Backup 2012 natively support encrypting backups or will this take a "workaround" solution of using scheduled tasks to encrypt/decrypt the backups whenever they are read/written?
2. It appears that the backups/VHD files are already password protected and require admin access. What is the general consensus on encrypting backups? Is it standard and highly recommended practice to encrypt the backups? Is this normal among you admins out there are does it lean towards being excessive?
3. Have you admins heard of data being breached from someone hacking a VHD file from a stolen drive?
I greatly appreciate any feedback.
