Experiencing slow backups with the following;
1. Hyper-V host running Server 2016.
2. All 4 VMs have fixed sized virtual hard disks.
3. Virtual hard disks reside on a volume directly attached to the host, currently 176GB free of 4.36TB.
4. Full system state backup and Hyper-V backup being taken with Windows Server Backup.
5. Dedicated 6TB USB 3.0 hard drive used for WSB.
Backup begins at 10pm each evening, Windows Server Backup still running at only 15% 10 hours later.
The USB drive is being written to, at the 10 hour point around 360GB has been written.
Please could someone just run over the mechanics of the VSS process during backup? As I understand it, VSS will create a snapshot of the VM during backup to track changes made during the backup process. Is there any reason why the backup is still only at 15% almost 12 hours later? Hyper-V manager simply reports 'Backing up...'
Many thanks.
