Good day,
I have run into a peculiar issue recently and was hoping to get some help. Windows server backup is failing every other backup job. The job in between is successful, but is run as a full backup. This reduces the number of backups that can
be stored on the USB disk and is not an acceptable work around.
OS is Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials.
Here is what I have tried:
Replaced the USB disks, no change
Ran a chkdsk on all disks. They all come back clean and the event log also indicates they are clean
Deleted the backup job and recreated it, no change
Removed AV, no change
The issue appears to be the same as the one described in this post:

I am out of ideas at this point and was hoping to get some help. I have read a few posts online about this issue, but the only fix I found was to replace the USB disks. I have done this with no change to the issue.
