I have a Windows Server 2008, 64-bit, under management. The system writer component has disappeared after installing a handful of updates. My working conclusion is that it is because the C:\windows\winsxs folder has more than 1,000 items in it. In this
case, 22,000. In later versions of Windows, I could improve this situation by using DISM, but I'm not finding good guidance for Windows 2008.
