Hello. I am at my wits end trying to get tyhis done. I hope y'all can help me.
Server with only one drive: Drive failed.
Backup had been configured and was running properly to a USB external drive.
Drive has the structure: x:\windowsimagebackup\domain\
3 sub dir:
backup [date] [number]
Catalog
SPPMetadatacache
and 1 file: MediaId
My first attempt to restore to a new drive: create a USB 3 instalt0ion drive for 2008 r2.. Unfortunately even with the newest BIOS, the Windows server install does not see the USB drive once you get to the point of choosing "install" or "repair". Choosing the option to load the driver for the USB had no effect. I also could not access the external drive when booting from the flash drive. I fixed that by copying the external drive to yet another internal HDD borrowed for the purpose. Now, choosing to repair, I try the system resore option and the table which should list the available backups is blank and choosing "Advanced" doesn't work either. So trying to restore from the installation disk is a non-starter.
So I installed the server clean onto the new drive and am trying to run the restore from there. When I tell the program tro look at the external drive the search window hangs and trhe restore eventually times out. Selecting the internal drive I copied the backup to just says it doesn't find a backup.
I have tried every "bare metal restore" instruction set I can find as well as instructions to restore using the restore program itself.
Can someone please tell me how to get this restore accomplished? I beg of you ...
