Urgent: Windows Server 2008 Standard edition

Hi,

FYI We are Microsoft Mediaroom Developer in IPTV industry. We're having a difficulty to do the recent Personal Server installation.

Our attention on this email is to activating Windows Server 2008 Standard edition, Retail (NOT volume license) edition. Where do we get the product keys for that?

As you all know, the MRPS 1.x license didn’t include the operating system; we had to install the OS (Win2008R2 Enterprise) and database (SQL2008 Enterprise) ourselves and then install the MRPS software on it.  There was no specific hard-coded limitation on which build of the OS and database were in use.

MRPS 2.x requires me to merely activate the pre-installed OS (Win2008R2 Standard) and DB (SQL2008 Standard), and – according to the very specific documentation on this matter – the installed editions are Retail editions, which means Volume License keys and MSDN keys won’t work.

FYI we just called MSDN to confirm that it would include the correct keys, and they’re telling us that no, it won’t.

We need to ask Microsoft how we're supposed to get product keys that will work.

  • We can purchase Volume Licensing keys, which *will not work* in Retail editions software.
  • We can purchase MSDN, which gives us keys for Windows Server 2008 Enterprise edition and/or WS2008 Web edition, both of which *will not work* in Standard edition software.
  • We cannot purchase WS2008 or SQL2008 Retail keys anymore, because they are *discontinued*.

So… What are we supposed to do??? It is a bit dilemma to us at this point. We need this personal server done as yesterday for our TV app testing.

Please advice what to do at this point.
