I'm doing a favour for someone by doing their backup rotations (which they're doing in Windows Server Backup) and also periodic testing of server restores. To this end, I've taken possession of a huge number of hard disks to rotate for backups... and it's
kind of a nightmare to deal with now that the backups are sprawled all over these disks, especially since the size of the backups dwarfs the capacity of each disk.
what I'd like to do is
1. Consolidate all the backup disks into a single location, which I can then archive properly.
2. Recycle a couple of those disks into a new rotation of just two disks per server for backups going forwards.
3. Recycle / keep the rest as spares.
What I REALLY want to avoid is the situation where I get asked to restore a backup, and I end up hunting in ten disks for when the required restore date might be.
Could someone tell me the best way (or if there is a way) to consolidate multiple backup disks into one location? Thanks
