Dism on windows nt 6.3.9600.17031 running under 6.1.7601.16385

I don't know why but my recovery environment has turned to NT 6.1.7601.16385, not the previous 6.3.9600.17301. So I tried to copy a Server 2012 R2 install folder to a partition without install.wim. When I switched to recovery environment, I found that dism utility on sources folder could be executed, though help files were not all available. I also tried to capture an empty partition and it returned a result indicating that my capture operation was successful. However, when I tried to apply that empty image file to he partition I had captures before, it returned an error message. This message told me that an error occurred. The dism.log file gave me a pn error code:80070057. Some information on the Internet implied that some parameters were incorrect. But I used exactly the same parameters as Technet posted, only changed the value of parameters. I don't know what the **** was going. As I can assure that I have full access to partitions I capture and apply, including read and write access, of course. Anyone can give me an idea?

"Unidentified network" in Domain enviroment

I have setup Lan routing millions of times on Server 2012 in Domain environment.

------------

DC1.

ip: 10.10.0.10 mask: 255.255.0.0 gw: 10.10.0.1

Router:

ip: 10.10.0.1 (internal) mask 255.255.0.0
ip2: 192.168.1.12 (external) mask: 255.255.255.0 gw: 192.168.1.1

---

The problem is that the External interface saying "Unidentified network" (when I dont have any GW), when I have a GW and it have Internet access with 8.8.8.8 as DNS it says "network", not my Domain name!

The external interface have not registered in DNS on DC1.

And yes. I have disabled the Nic, and I can ping everything. The FW are off.

I am running this on ESXi. The free version.

Been at this for a day now. I have also reinstall the server, same issue.

How good is the built in backup?

0

We are going to upgrade or server to Windows Server 2012 Essentials.

Today we are using Symantec Backup Exec.

Will the built in backup in WS be enough?

We will be using MS SQL Server and it's crucial that that data will be backed up properly.

WHS 2011 Rebuild Raid 5

HI

I have a WHS 2011 with 5 drives

2 X 500gig drives, where the first drive is my C: drive and that is backed up to the second drive.

3 X 3000gig drives in a WHS (software) Raid 5 configuration and this was the machines effective D: drive.

one of the drives in the Raid died. In the process of replacing the broken drive. I have some how removed the D: drive (Server Manager > Disk Manager) and now have 2 of the drives showing as 'Unallocated'.  before I did this there were no files lost (So I believe the Raid 5 protected me from the disk loss)

I am hoping that the two remaining drives and a replacement, i can rebuild the RAID. The only option I can see is to create a new RAID and I am loathe to do this in case it formats the drives and looses everything.

Any Help would be much appreciated.

Windows Backup

Hey Every one ,

I have a problem over here with the Windows baremetal backup. I want to back my Server applications and settings as it is domain controller. But when I am trying to take baremetal backup then the size is huge and it's coming around 2.95 TB

I have a backup and it's size is only 2.7 TB. So I am wondering how can I take back up on the backup drive.

Is it possible to take only c:drive backup and restore it when or if server crashes.. Sorry if the questions sounds silly.

Thanks in Advance.

Faraz

Backup Destination volume ids need to be changed but server will not allow it

We run MS server 2011. Using the backup wizard I was initially unaware that all usb drives must be online at the time of configuration.  Once I added the second drive at a later date after several "successful" backups to Backup Disk 1, somehow; it reconfigured Backup 1 as Backup 2 volume id.  Always allowing for operator error, I proceeded to reverse the process once I had discovered the correct procedure.  However, the wizard will not let me start over.  I have taken both drives and reformatted them with the correct volume ID to no avail.  I have tried to remove all backups from the move or add display, to no avail. I have tried to unschedule the backup, and the wizard will not let me.  I am curious as to why the backup "wizard" does not query the drive to see that the correct volume is loaded and would really like to know how to undo what I have done.  I had the drives initially formatted with the correct volume names, but the system never looks at the disk.  We had better backup control in the 80s, volume labels were checked to help eliminate human error.  Hopefully, the actual backups are checked.

Please help, it makes no sense for the system to call disk[1] Backup Disk 2 and also call disk[2] Backup Disk 2.

Thanks.

Unable to back up 8.1 tablet to home server 2011

I have a Dell Venue Pro 11 (model 5130 tablet running 8.1 32 bit fully patched) which I am trying to back up using Windows Home Server 2011.  I can start the backup but it fails repeatedly.

The server reports "Backup did not complete because a problem interrupted the connection to the server"

The event log on the tablet reports "Reason: ClientVSSProblem, SystemString[]

Event Id 514, Qualifiers 53247, Level 2 Task 2, Keywords 0x80000000000000

The Tablet and the Server are in the same workgroup, the tablet is setup to permit access by everyone (with full control) in the workgroup.

When setting up the backup on the server, the C drive is recognized, but the D (microsd card) is not recognized by the server

The backup starts, reports 1%, then fails.

The Tablet is running plugged in with the power plan set to never turn off when plugged in.

I have a desktop running 8.1 which the server backs up daily, so I doubt that the problem lies with the server software.

Any ideas on how to correct this problem so that I can back up the Tablet?

Windows Backup for Windows Server 2008 R2 Standerd not working 2155348041

Hi

When I am running backups via the Backup server feature I keep getting the following error in the event log:

The backup operation that started at '‎2014‎-‎05‎-‎27T04:59:16.185618200Z' has failed with following error code '2155348041' (None of the source volumes were backed up.). Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.

The backup report gives me the following error:

the request could not be performed because of an i/o

I have tried using another Harddrive and have installed the Hotfix from windows but still get this error.

I also tried Re Installing the Backup feature this also did not work.

Will DFS work with a domain controller against a member server?

0
0

Hi,

I've got DFS working before when I had 2 domain controllers.  I had to demote one (a complete rebuild because its goes funny after the demotion), now I am unable to get DFS to sync between the domain controller and the member server.

Advice would be appreciated.

Backup or image a microsoft server 2008 r2 with raid array.

Can I do a complete image or backup of my windows server 2008 r2 that has a raid array and then restore my backup to another computer that has no raid array but a big enough hd to support the restore.

, I would like to create a full system image of my server to a portable HD.  Lets say one day my server is stolen and I had to purchase a second server.  From that HD and Windows CD I want to be able to hit restore on this new server.

Is this possible if the new machine does not have the same hardware or a raid array.

Or can I build a new server 2008 r2 std and just restore the partitions and data.

In laymen terms pls.

Hello,

One of our server backups failed last weekend due to power failure and  the backup failed at that point. So I was wondering if I can read/open the backup? When I try using windows restore it says "Backup contains unrecognized data and cannot be used"

I need to restore data from this corrupt file so I was if there is a way to open this file?

I really appreciate any help...!

Thanks

Backup Schedule failing on weekdays.

Our backup schedule runs every day at 1:30AM.  The weekend backups complete successfully, but the backups during the weekdays fail with a shadow copy error.

The only difference is that during the weekdays more users are connected, but still during the weekends users are connected, but not as many.

The error is pretty generic: The backup of the volume failed. A volume shadow copy service failed.

An error occurred while reconnecting P: to \\JSERVER\Data Microsoft Windows Network: The network path was not found. This connection has not been restored.

Almost every day when I open my computer I get this message:

An error occurred while reconnecting P: to \  \  JSERVER\data Microsoft Windows Network: The network path was not found. This connection has not been restored.

We then have to go through the process of resetting everything from start to finish just so I can connect to the server. There is no reason that we can find that causes this other than maybe windows updating every night. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?
