I am running windows server 2012 essentials and have been backing up to a series of USB 3 enclosures containing WD Red drives (rotate the backup drive monthly). Have had occasional usb connection loss issues (detail below).
Any thoughts on using esata instead of USB 3 based on the experience of others with backing up Windows Server Essentials would be appreciated.
Specific recommendations of external enclosures particularly appreciated.
Today's issue:
Two different Vantec HX enclosures, two different WD Red drives. Today, a new message:
The scheduled backup did not finish successfully and returned the following error code: 2155348305 There was a failure while compacting the virtual hard disk on the backup location. Detailed error: Incorrect function
On going to the server itself, I see in the notification area that a USB device failed and was unrecognized.
unplugged, plugged back in, attempting backup again (at 66% as I write). Feedback appreciated.
