I have a fully patched Windows Server 2012 R2 physical machine that is a DC, Exchange and file server. I also have 2 vendor backup programs (Backup Assist and Symantec Recovery Server 2013 R2) running backup on this box (including Exchange). Every evening at off hours in the morning one of the backup programs is run.
I noticed that the VSS Writers have been failing, which in turn cause the backups to fail. Symantec found nothing wrong with SRS. I can't figure out why the VSS Writers keep failing, and there aren't many articles on troubleshooting in this area. The only way to resolve this issue is to restart the server, which is difficult at least twice a week. Can anyone help me diagnose why the VSS writers are failing? Thanks.
