Hi all,
I have connected a usb external drive as a backup to disk solution using Windows Backup feature on Windows Server 2008 R2 in a test environment to see if what the limitations are. After all my tests I've removed the test server and now I find
that whenever I connect the usb drive it will not be read.
I have tried deleting the volume, formatting the partition, nothing helps. After a lot of tests it got to a point where it would either show as RAW partition or simply as not initialized. I've worked with diskpart and with the GUI tools to try
and make something of it but nothing worked.
Most of the times I would get errors that the file specified does not exist and in event viewer I find the following errors:
Event ID 140: The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur in VolumeId: \\?\Volume{93c8cbc2-42fb-11e3-be75-5cac4cfd0b06}, DeviceName: \Device\HarddiskVolume5.
(A device which does not exist was specified.)
Oddly enough Volume 5 is on the internal Hard disk of the machine I'm using right now, not on the USB disk.
Eent ID 153: The IO operation at logical block address 5f186f for Disk 1 was retried.
After many different attempts I managed to get it to see the volume as it was named by the backup service again but I can't browse the files, nor can I reformat.
Any ideas?
