System Recovery Partition...is it really needed?

Hi All,

I am having problems backing up the Windows 2012 R2 System Recovery Partition using Dell Appassure backup product.

My question is how important is it to backup the system recovery partition? is it really required? Is it safe to skip backing this partition up?

I assume if we did not have a system recovery partition then the same functionality can be acheived by booting up from a Windows Server 2012 boot disk and selecting the repair option?
