Robocopy Directory Date/Time Problem

$

I use robocopy for my nightly drive differential backups. Although the date/time stamp of the new folder is correct when robocopy starts and retains the actual creation date/time stamp (current) during the copy process, the instant the copy completes, the date stamp of the container folder changes to some different and meaningless date and time.

Is there anyway to keep that from happening?  I would like to be able to sort the nightly folders by creation or modification dates like any other folders but am reduced to having to play around with the folder file names to get a good sort.

Restore failed from WindowsImageBackup folder

I backup EFI partition, C: and System state using Windows Server backup on external HDD drive.

Then, I restarted, and boot up from Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard DVD and click Repair computer->Restore from System Image-> Then, it detects my WindowsImageBackup file and I clicked next.

This is the error that shows, I don't get it. I am restoring onto C: , what does it mean it can't find any disk?

Error:

Windows did not find any disk which it can use for recreating volumes present in backup, offline disks, cluster shared disk, explicitly excluded by user will not be used by windows. Ensure that disks are online and no disks are excluded by mistake.

I tried this on other servers , they have no problem.

Event error 13 vmicvss Windows Server 2012 unable to perform online backup because scoped snapshots enabled

First W2K12 install, so, learning. W2K12 running in guest W2K8R2 Hyper-V. See error below. Been occuring since install, several events recorded within same 15 minute period each day, before and after joined to domain. Bing/Google searches and Event ID turned up no info. Quesrions:

  1. Why are online backups not enabled by default? (what if this were an Exchange or AD machine, for example)
  2. Where can I read up on scoped snapshots (again, searching yielded no info)
  3. In what scenarios should I leave scoped snapshots disabled? In what scenarios should I enable?

incidentally, this particular vm will be for SQL 2012 Enterprise. Followed immediately by a SharePoint 2013 vm also running W2K12.

Windows Server Backup starts automatically after reboot

Every time I reboot my server, the scheduled daily backup starts to run which is really really annoying and can't seem to find a way to stop it from doing that.

Is this a bug or by design?

One of two external drives never does incremental after unplugging

I've been fighting this for weeks and I am totally buffaloed.

I have a Dell PowerEdge 2900 running Small Business Server 2008. I've been using Windows Server Backup with BackupAssist as a "front-end" for years. I have two nominally identical eSATA external enclosures, each with a Hitachi HDS724040ALE640 4 TB disk. I don't recall how long I've had these but it's been a while. I swap them out pretty much every day, and back up to the attached disk every day of the week.

A few weeks ago I added another 500GB to my PERC-6 RAID-5 array. At the same time I changed my backup strategy. I had the two external disks formatted with two partitions, one for the image backup and one for data from other servers. I decided to have only one partition and only do image backups but put the backups from the other servers into a folder on the main server so they wind up in the image.

Ever since then, if I unplug one of the disks (call it disk A) and plug in the other disk (call it disk B) and let the scheduled backup run, and then remove disk B, plug in disk A, and let the scheduled backup run, disk A winds up with only the most recent backup on it. Disk B, OTOH, accumulates backups as expected and as before the switch. And disk A accumulates multiple backups as long as it remains plugged in (e.g. over the weekend).

Both disks reports SMART data in the green. An intensive multi-day surface check with Victoria doesn't show an bad or even problematic sectors. I've reformatted many times, and deleted and re-created the partition a couple of times.

BackupAssist tech support can't figure out what's happening. I've tried to test with using WSB directly but I haven't come up with any useful results becasue I don't really understand how to set up a rotating-media backup in WSB. I've done various checks and repairs with wbadmin without any joy. It seems pretty unlikely that the problem is in BackupAssist becasue all it does is write a script then call WSB to execute it, and the script doesn't vary.

Several days before, I bought a new computer, as I had always heard from people that the windows 7 system

crushes sometimes, so I decided to make a copy of my windows 7 system. But I didn't know how to

clone windows 7 system, so I asked one of my friends for help who has much more experiences on

computer than me. And he suggested me to use Easeus todo backup software. I tried and I successfully

cloned my system. But I am wondering whether this software is suitable for each type of operating system. Is there anyone knnows about that?

Unable to do Bare Metal Restore on Windows Server 2008R2 Backup from USB Seagate Backup Plus Harddrive

I have done a windows full server backup on to an external Seagate HDD on a Dell PowerEdge T110 II Server running Windows Server 2008 R2

I want to clone this and do a Bare Metal Restore on an identical server at home which has Windows Server 2008 R2 on it.

I boot from the Windows DVD provided, select repair however windows Server 2008 R2 will not find the image of the Seagate drive. The Seagate drive can be seen on the server otherwise. I guess there are options to load the driver, but I don't see them.

Please help. Kind of stuck here

Thanks

How to remove the older entries of backup sets in windows server

$

Hi guyz,

we are using windows server backup feature.. and we are backing up files and folders to remote shared location.

the problem that we are facing is that, we run this backup every day using a script to new folder (folder name=datemonthyear) , and after each 30 days we start deleting the oldest entry from the shared location

so its similar to the retention days feature of the dpm.

but the problem is that even though we delete the actual backed up folder from the shared location, its entry is still there and we can see that when we type Get-WBBackupSet

can any one tell me how to delete this entry whenever we delete the folder...

plz help me guyz.

Does Snapshot Restoration destroy newer data?

$

Last week we two of our server 2012 virtual machines went down.  During the process of diagnosing and attempting to get them running again, a snapshot was restored on the VM which acts as a file-server.  Because the snapshot was somewhat out of date, I wonder if the restoration process physically wipes/deletes any data which was created after said snapshot.

If the data is not physically wiped/deleted but rather is inaccessible through normal means, is there a way for me to recover any or all of what was lost?

To answer your initial question, no, there is not a backup of this particular VM's data.  We're a small organization which has experienced some significant turnover in IT, and none of my predecessors set up any regular or organized plan of backups for this shared file and data server.  Needless to say, this is my first priority going forward.

External USB disk unusable after Windows Server Backup

$

Hi all,
I have connected a usb external drive as a backup to disk solution using Windows Backup feature on Windows Server 2008 R2 in a test environment to see if what the limitations are. After all my tests I've removed the test server and now I find that whenever I connect the usb drive it will not be read.
I have tried deleting the volume, formatting the partition, nothing helps. After a lot of tests it got to a point where it would either show as RAW partition or simply as not initialized. I've worked with diskpart and with the GUI tools to try and make something of it but nothing worked.
Most of the times I would get errors that the file specified does not exist and in event viewer I find the following errors:

Event ID 140: The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur in VolumeId: \\?\Volume{93c8cbc2-42fb-11e3-be75-5cac4cfd0b06}, DeviceName: \Device\HarddiskVolume5.

(A device which does not exist was specified.)

Oddly enough Volume 5 is on the internal Hard disk of the machine I'm using right now, not on the USB disk.

Eent ID 153: The IO operation at logical block address 5f186f for Disk 1 was retried.

After many different attempts I managed to get it to see the volume as it was named by the backup service again but I can't browse the files, nor can I reformat.
Any ideas?

Windows Server 2008 R2 Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070569)

I have gone through the other posts with this error and non of the solutions offered has worked for me.

I have recently attached a network storage device ( a DROBO which is Linux based).  I am doing backups to this device of all of my servers.  I have a share set up that the servers can connect to on the DROBO.

I have scheduled backups on my servers to run at different times when my business is closed.  The two domain controllers execute the backup with no problem.

The problem is on the domain member servers.  The backup will run if I run it from the Server backup utility, with the parameter to back up once using the scheduled backup options.  However, it will not run as scheduled.  I have found the following error in the task scheduler - Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070569).  When I am at the backup snap-in, it does not show that the backup that was supposed to run the previous day was run, but does show that the scheduled backup has been incremented to the next day.

I am running the backup under the domain administrators account and so there should be no problems with permissions.

SBS 2008 - Volume D does not show in Restore

$

Hi everybody,

on our SBS 2008 EventViewer says Backup Succeeded, no further errors shown.
But when I try to recover files or Volumes, data Partition "D" is not shown. Server-Manager -> Storage -> Windows-Server-Backup says "Completed with Warnings", and Details show:

"D:The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

But in WindowsImageBackup there is a vhd of the appropriate size.

ChkDsk says no errors on both backup and destination drive. What now?

Thanks,
Thilo

Server 2012 Essentials backup recovery issues (critical)

A client's Windows 2012 Essentials Server was recently was hit by a hard disk failure.  Thankfully I did a complete system state/file/baremetal (every option) to an external USB drive the day before the disk failure.

I tried doing a baremetal restore using the Windows Server 2012 Essentials installation DVD and selecting the USB external hard drive but the system kept responding that the backup location specified does not contain any backup.

I went through many steps and suggestions but nothing worked.  I then just installed Windows Server 2012 Essentials using a the DVD and after the installation I tried running a restore using Windows Server backup and selecting the USB drive.  Same thing happened as before.

I have tried copying the WindowsImageBackup folder to the C: of the server and select the folder that way but no matter what I do the same message occurs.

The user I am logged in as is an Admin and is also part of the Backup Operators group.  The copied WindowsImageBackup folder on the C: has "everyone" set to full rights for folder, subfolder and files.  The owner has been set to the Admin user and the system.  Neither changes anything.

I NEED to get this backup working and restore the data.

Windows Backup timed-out before the shared protection point was created.

Hello,

I currently have the problem that I cannot create a backup on one of my servers. On this server are multiple VMs but I can't even backup one VM. I always get the following error: Windows Backup timed-out before the shared protection point was created.I already checked the eventlog but could not find any error which could cause this.

The Servers are all WS2012. Backup target is a USB 3.0 HDD.

I hope someone can help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance
